The project is managed by the World Bank and funded by a Grant from the Trust Fund for Environment and Social Sustainable Development (TFESSD). The Lao part of the project is implemented by one international and four Lao riparian World Bank consultants together with the Lao Water & Environment Research Institute (WERI) under the Lao Water Resources & Environment Administration (WREA).
Project overall objectives are:
- Support Integrated Watershed and Water Resources Management (IWWRM) in the Mekong Basin focusing on Lao PDR.
- Support climate change adaptation in the Mekong Basin focusing on Lao PDR.
- Build Mekong countries' sustainable capacity for integrated watershed and climate change planning focusing on Lao PDR.
Project specific objectives are:
- Develop watershed planning and impact assessment tool fit for supporting climate change policy and adaptation. The tool is a state-of-the-art Hydro-Agro-Economic model and modeling platform including Lao HAE database, GIS-tools and analysis tools.
- Develop policy recommendations and adaptation measures for climate change.
- Communicate project results, transfer skills and knowledge and build ownership of the project methodology and results.
